Helium-drev

Selvom harddiske er forseglede, har de luft indeni. Luft kan skabe turbulensfremkaldte risikovibrationer, som kan begrænse harddiskens lagringstæthed. Nyere heliumfyldte drev eliminerer stort set turbulens, fordi helium er 1/7-del så tæt som luft. Denne lavere tæthed gør det muligt for læse-/skrivemekanismen at dreje lettere og mere præcist med mindre modstand. Mindre intern turbulens betyder, at drevpladerne kan være tættere på hinanden, hvilket giver plads til flere plader og øger kapacitetspotentialet på den samme plads. Mindre turbulens betyder også, at heliumdrev har tendens til at bruge mindre strøm og køre køligere og mere støjsvagt.
